Fantasy literature has been around since humans started putting words on stone. But JRR Tolkien was known as the first author to truly popularize much of the fantastical creatures and themes that we take for granted today. Many of these elements appear in the Harry Potter books. Like goblins, trolls, elves and of course wizards. But these are so common in modern fantasy literature that its a bit too easy to say that JK Rowling was being influenced by Tolkien directly.
For Episode 9's Accio Fandom segment, with the help of our special guests, we will examine the possible ways J.K. Rowling was influenced by J.R.R Tolkien. Special guests include:
Kristi Fojtik - Organizer of the Los Angeles Tolkien Forever Fellowship.
